Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Tha Dogg Pound form a supergroup

Sometimes old enemies can come together to make amazing music. Prior to Slaughterhouse, Joe Budden and Royce 5’9 had swapped wax dissertations. The 2007 dispute would come full circle within a year, as the two artists would enjoy great success together and nearly top the charts with Slaughterhouse’s second album. Ghostface Killah and Raekwon were adversaries on Staten Island before the Wu-Tang Clan was formed. Years before collaborating on film and creating “Real People,” Common and Ice Cube had a legendary beef that had real threats and interactions.

This month, two former rivals came together to form a supergroup. Bone Thugs-n-Harmony revealed that they and Tha Dogg Pound formed ThugPound. Bone confirmed the news on their official Facebook, along with a photo of Krayzie Bone, Layzie Bone, Flesh-N-Bone, and Kurupt. Wish Bone, Daz Dillinger and Bizzy Bone did not appear in the film.

Nearly 30 years ago, these two bands had a beef that was an extension of the spinoff between Dr. Dre and Eazy-E. At Death Row Records, Dre involved Daz and Kurupt on early albums. On “What would you do?” 1994 from the top of the charts Murder Was The Case SoundtrackDaz announced that he was “nibble guys like a bone.” A year later, on the top of the Bone charts E. 1999 EternalKrayzie replied with “Mo’murda”: “Follow me / Ride, ride East ’99 / Gotta find those Row h*es.Layzie Bone added “Double Glock Shotz”: “Ni**as make no mistake or you’ll step into the hood / Wig splitters will cover your dome / In a cup where thugs and hustlas roam / Cleveland Browns / Dogg Pound h*es it’s on.That same year, Kurupt used Tha Dogg Pound’s dog food start to retaliate, “ACan’t hurt myself / Got no love for H*es-N-Harmony” to “Dogg Pound Gangstaz.”

In recent years, Bone and DPG have made peace. Daz worked with Layzie and Krayzie, separately. Kurupt has appeared on the Layzie and Mo’ Thugs compilations. Previously, Bone members established another offshoot, Rogue brotherswith another former Death Row band, Young Noble of Tha Outlawz.

Daz and Kurupt’s former label made headlines last week after Snoop Dogg acquired the company and released his latest album, BODR (bac on death row) through the imprint. There were plans, prior to Snoop’s involvement, that the label would release music by Tha Dogg Pound. The duo stopped recording for the label in the early 2000s, even as Daz and later Kurupt had controversial ties to the imprint co-founded by Dr Dre and Suge Knight.

In late 2021, a fully reunited Bone Thugs-N-Harmony took on another enemy, Three 6 Mafia, in a Verzuz battle. This month, Krayzie appeared on Saba’s few good things.
