Gopi Chand, 91 years old Narang breathed his last in the United States earlier today. He had the distinction of being recognized by the Presidents of India and Pakistan. Writer, literary critic and academic, Professor Narang is the only one to hold this record. He was awarded the prestigious Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Star of Excellence) from the Government of Pakistan and Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri from the Government of India.

His works have also earned him several other accolades, including the Mazzini Gold Medal from Italy, the Amir Khusro Prize from Chicago, the Ghalib Prize, the Canadian Academy of Urdu Language and Literature Prize, and the of the European Urdu Writers Society.
