Teddy Fontana explores the symbolism of Los Angeles in “Paradise City”

Teddy Fontana is a singer, songwriter and musician. And 2021 has been pretty good for the Los Angeles entertainer so far. Besides doing random crafts and puzzles and watching TV, Teddy has spent a lot of time making music. “I’m always thrilled to tie a knot on a project that’s been in the works for a while,” Teddy told Eat This Music. “The process of writing and then creating sound recordings is a long process. I love being able to showcase the final product as a body of work and share it with people. »

“I’m always thrilled to tie a knot on a project that’s been in the works for a while,” Teddy recalled of his new EP, which is now out. “The process of writing and then creating sound recordings is a long process. I love being able to showcase the final product as a body of work and share it with people. »

The title Paradise City is symbolic of Los Angeles itself. Both grungy and heavenly. Famously vibrant with so much possibility and inspiration, but also sometimes lonely and intimidating. I feel like the EP sums up a lot of that. Teddy had a great team that she worked with on this project, “I worked with other writers and musicians on this project, so it’s different from a lot of my other music which is a bit more personal and detailed at the lyrically,” she says. “It was more of a collaborative effort, but it was a great experience and I really appreciate my team.”

Teddy’s EP was more collaborative in the sense that she worked with other songwriters on each song with a specific goal in mind. With many of his other works, it’s usually Teddy who expresses his feelings in a more isolated process. However, with this EP, she had separate goals for each song to create certain sights and sounds.

Recording the EP at Lala Mansion Studios in Laurel Canyon provided inspiration for the project due to the music history there. That was a big part of why I wanted to reference Los Angeles in the title. — Teddy Fontana on his new EP

Teddy and his team spent a lot of time recording there and it was really inspiring. And as for favorite songs from the EP, the first single, “Nowis Teddy’s absolute favorite. It’s a song she can’t wait to start performing live. It has such a special energy and it’s just a really fun and sonically vibrant track.

“Hopefully it’s something a listener can put on and enjoy throughout,” Teddy told Eat This Music. “I really feel like it’s a cohesive playlist but also each song is distinctly different and unique”
